If you are a new client or are considering therapy, we hope the following information will be helpful:
The standard fee for a psychotherapy session will differ according to each of our therapists. The therapists at LAGC make every effort to accommodate people’s diverse economic situations. Unless otherwise agreed upon, fees are due at the time of service. Your therapist will provide you with more information about fees on the phone and at your first session.
“Do you take insurance?” is a question we are frequently asked. Therapists at LAGC have differing policies with regard to insurance billing. Some of us bill insurance directly, while most of us provide “superbills” (a statement with dates of service and all necessary information for the insurance company) which can be submitted by you to insurance for reimbursement. Most of our services are eligible for claim and reimbursement by major insurance companies that provide mental health coverage. In some instances, we may have arrangements with insurance plans or universities. In other cases, it might be possible to negotiate fee arrangements with managed care companies even when we are not on their provider panels. If you have insurance, please find out if your coverage includes mental health and, if so, what the details are regarding the coverage. This will be helpful when talking to your therapist about insurance and fee arrangements.
APPOINTMENTS AND MESSAGES
Each LAGC therapist has a confidential voicemail where you can leave messages. Make sure to leave your availability and your phone numbers when you call, even if you think your therapist has them. Please let us know if you would like us to use discretion when returning your calls and leaving messages. Each therapist has their own cancellation policy which they will discuss with you.
Nothing you say in therapy will be shared with anyone without your expressed permission. This is your right and you can depend on it.
There are a few exceptions to confidentiality. Under these circumstances, the therapists at LAGC make every effort to release the minimum amount of information necessary for the purpose requested.
Exceptions to Confidentiality are:
1. If insurance pays part of the expenses for treatment, the insurance company has the right to request information for the purposes of authorizing sessions or paying for treatment.

2. If your therapist has reason to believe that you are likely to seriously injure yourself or another person in the immediate future, they have an obligation to intervene. If they become aware of the occurrence of child, dependent, or elder abuse as defined by law, they have a legal obligation to report it.
3. A court order could require release of records. Clients are assured that confidentiality is protected by ethical practice and the laws of the State of California. During your first session, your therapist will provide you with more information related to these laws and practices.
