Spiritual Psychology

“We are pushed by our pain until we are pulled by our vision.”

Rev. Michael Beckwith

The path of personal growth often begins with emotional pain.  We may seek out therapy because of our struggles with depression, anxiety or addiction.  For some of us it is a sense that we are not living the life we were meant to live.

As we move through life we create beliefs about ourselves in response to how we are treated or what we think is expected of us.  We can hold fast to these limiting beliefs as if they were truths.  Too often we try to live up (or down) to the expectations of others by developing a false self, a persona.  We can spend so much of our lives living from this place that we lose sight of who we really are.

But many of us are blessed with a conscious yearning for more.  We recognize that we have a purpose we have not yet fulfilled.  There is an inner calling to express our true and authentic self.  I believe that the essence of this true Self is rooted in the infinite, the eternal, the divine.  Some people may call this God.

My work as a therapist is to help people move beyond their pain and toward a clearer vision for how they want their life to be.  I respect the beliefs of my clients and do not impose my ideas on them.  I work with all types of people.  For some, spirituality or religion simply doesn‘t play a role in their lives.  Other clients are devout members of traditional religions.  And others consider themselves spiritual but not religious.

I believe that each of us has an inner knowing.  I work in partnership with each of my clients to help them trust and access their inner wisdom.  All of us have personal struggles of one kind or another.  I try always to view my clients with compassion and understanding and I support them in developing a compassionate view of themselves as well.

Through our partnership I help my clients release their identification with their limiting beliefs. As my clients turn away from these untruths about themselves they begin to open up to a greater sense of possibility. They allow the vision for their lives to unfold and their authentic self to express.
